Match Preview: Hadley (A) – League
By Leon Waite – @leonwaite98
After ten days of recuperation and reflection, United’s return to match action ended in further disappointment as they surrendered a lead in the second-half at Bedford Town to lose 2-1 and exit the Beds Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage.
Eventually one can’t continue to go into the long rigamarole of reasonably good performances by Cristian Colas’ side not equating to positive results but with games consistently being decided by a single goal the next win can’t be too far off.
It’s primarily been the clubs in the upper echelons of the division that have caused United problems- the 2-1 reverse against Colney Heath being the exception- so perhaps fixtures against difficult but slightly less challenging opposition could prove more profitable.
Hadley sit two places and one point behind United in twelfth as they appear set for a much-improved campaign having finished nineteenth- without reaching double figures for wins- last term.
However, they have generally struggled since parting company with manager and former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea midfielder Micky Hazard in October with an inconsistent series of results. A 4-1 success at St Margaretsbury in the League Challenge Trophy was their only win across all competitions in November and they lost to the Bury 2-1 at home in the league three days later.
That result is among a five-match winless run in the league with a League Challenge Trophy departure interspersed in that sequence also. But they have come from behind to earn 1-1 draws in the last two league games, most notably against high-flying Biggleswade FC on their own patch.
United have fared better in this fixture recently with Hadley’s last win against them coming in an emphatic 4-1 triumph at Second Meadow two years ago. Colas’ men won the reverse game 1-0 that season and were victorious 2-1 and 3-2 respectively in both matches between the sides last term.
However, that record is unlikely to matter when these two out of form teams go into battle on Saturday at Brickfield Lane, KO 3pm.
