Biggleswade United is delighted to announce that Gareth Davies, until recently Chairman at London Colney is to become our new Chairman, taking over from Chris Lewis who will become the club’s new Vice-Chairman.
Manchester born Gareth who now lives in Biggleswade said of his new role:
“When I was offered the chance to take the helm at Biggleswade United Football Club it wasn’t hard to say yes. Having first been here back in 2016 with Ware I was immediately struck by the professionalism and friendliness of the club and it always stuck with me.
When I took control of London Colney this season Tracey was at the end of the phone to help me and guide me in certain areas and that again showed me the class that the club has.
Chris Lewis has done a great job so far; getting Guillem involved and guiding the club to where it is now has been no mean feat. The foundations are now in place on which we can build.
I want to take the club as far as it can go. If we look at teams that that have progressed from this level, Stevenage is the one that stands out. Who’s to say we can’t achieve what they have?
We’ve got a great set up here at Biggleswade United, but we need the facilities to back up what we have behind the scenes, things that make the club what it is.
If I can deliver on new facilities, if I can help to move the club even further forward than it has been taken over the past few years then that would be an amazing result for football and the local community.
I’m a big believer in having fun and doing things with a smile and that’s the feeling I get from being at Biggleswade United.
The youth set up is amazing and the effort the coaches and players put in each week is a joy to behold. There is nothing that would give me greater pleasure and pride than to see one of our players works his way from the Under 6s all the way up to the first team.
The fact that we have so many young boys and girls with us who have the opportunity to progress through the ranks all the way to the first team is due testament to the club and its philosophy.
Going forward we have a great young coaching staff in place taking charge of the first team this season and who will be looking to build on the foundations left by Cristian and Stuart, two coaches I have known for a while and have an enormous respect for.
The decision to go with a younger management team highlights the clubs belief that investing in youth and giving them a chance to grow at the club is the way forward and I’m very excited and can’t wait to see just where this new chapter will take us.”
Vice-Chairman Chris Lewis says:
“After nearly four and a half years as chairman I have taken the decision to stand aside.
My personal situation is changing in the near future and I therefore need to devote the required time to that. As such I have taken the decision to move into different role at the club; a role that will be less time intensive.
There are always lots of things going on behind the scenes of the club that people are unaware of, lots of planning and lots of negotiations. This decision was taken some time ago, since when we have been seeking the right person to take on the role.
Gareth Davies is the perfect person to step into my shoes. He has already slotted in seamlessly and totally understands what we are trying to achieve.
As such I will be taking on the role of vice-chairman and concentrating on the media aspect of the club. This will allow Gareth to focus on the commercial aspects of the club, something that he has a natural talent for.
We have achieved so much over the last four plus years and its been a joy and a privilege to have been the head of the club. To the board and staff at BUFC I can only express my gratitude to everyone for having had the faith in me to implement what may have been seen as some radical projects at this level.
I now look forward to working with Gareth to push this club forward into a new era.”
