BUFC Academy Roundup

U7s played at home to Biggleswade Rangers. Jimmy: “We played well in isolated patches, but couldn’t cope with the press of what is a very good team. Confidence drained. Rangers are moving to the U8’s league after Xmas.”

U8s Blues played away to PKSA Panthers. Nyasha Sagwete: “Struggled to get into the game in the first half as the opposition were putting good pressure on us from our goal kicks. A few good saves from our keeper. Much improved in the second half, we passed it a bit better and were more confident on the ball but we didn’t create enough chances.”

U8s Reds played at home to Royston Town Crows. Charlie Black: “Boys played really well, we had very good dribbling ability, good attacking play and most of all worked really hard off the ball, the other team learned nothing from the game as they just kicked it and I’m frustrated for their kids that they have learnt nothing and our boys have learnt a lot!”

U8s Templars played at home to Think Sport Thunder Milan (1st) / Somerries Youth (2nd). Dogan French: “We moved the ball very well and quickly, playing one and two touch for the majority of the game.” (1st)
“We set targets of moving quickly up the pitch, encouraging passing as opposed to running with the ball. Boys struggled but it’s early days!” (2nd)

U11s Reds played at home to Buntingford C Blues. Simon Warwick “We played some good football today, some of the best football in patches I’ve seen us play. The second half was all United pressure. Defending let us down but our forward play and effort in the second half was brilliant, top marks for effort today.

U11s Blues played at home Hares Youth. Pearse Hamilton: “Far and away our best performance this season. Decided to change things up a bit after last weekend and played a few players in positions they hadn’t played in before. Everyone played their best game of the season today.”

U13s lost 3-0 away to Atletico Europa. Matt Burgess: “A very well organised and physical team. Our game plan was based on damage limitation as we had a key injury. Glad to say, even though understrength, we improved on our last result against this team. So no complaints, as the boys worked extremely hard.”

U16s lost 7-2 at home to Takeley. Tony Deitsch “Again, played with them and had the majority of the opportunities for the first twenty minutes. Defensive organisation and shape were good and then we let in a sloppy goal, didn’t clear a rebounded save for the second, then a free header from a corner and then a corner straight into the goal. 4-0 down at halftime was not a reflection of the game in the run of play. Lost the second half 3-2 but again we should have scored on the amount of opportunities we had. I’m annoyed, the team is annoyed, so it’s back to work this week.”

U18s lost 2-0 away to Canvey Island. Sam Goodman: “A goal in the 43rd minute and 89th minute sealed the deal. A better performance from the one on Thursday but still not great. Lots of things to work on to try and finish 2017 on a high. Self-belief, playing as a team and listening to instructions are just some of the areas needed to be addressed.”

U16s Girls won 4-2 at home to City Belles. Fran Constancio: “Well after last night’s meeting I reached this point with my team today or maybe last two Saturdays where we were missing some key players. I will be thinking about how important it is to involve all players and make them feel important, you never know when you will need them and they have to be ready. Today we were missing Helen and Estelle at the back with only three players able to play as defenders. Knowing this I thought what could be better for my team. I played with three at the back without fullbacks, then I used two players Holly and Keely and if you see their size and compare with others you will be scared to put them in the starting lineup. Keely just joined a year ago and I think today’s performance was the best I’ve seen from her, same as Holly, quality player but scared to go into tackles or 50/50s. She received applause from all parents, well deserved. A 4-2 win against City Belles (last season winners). This lot is just amazing, six players starting playing a year above, it doesn’t matter if you are ready and have the attitude. Today we played a different formation and maybe that confused the team in the first half, we corrected a few things and second half we were much better with the ball. After five minutes into the second half we were 2-1 down, but we believed and we scored three goals and managed to beat them. Our goalie showed why she goes on trial for England next week with different saves.”
