I was always convinced that life as director of football at Biggleswade United was going to be akin to a roller coaster ride and our form this season has done little to dispel my suspicions.

It’s all about consistency, of course, and, to date, the only thing that has been consistent about our performances this campaign has been our inconsistency.

Two poor performances either side of the New Year – a 4-0 mauling at Leighton Town and a 3-2 reversal at Crawley – were followed by two excellent home victories first a 2-0 win over Wembley and then, the highlight of the season so far, a superb 3-2 win over a previously unbeaten Welwyn Garden City.

We could have been forgiven for thinking that we had turned the corner but now it’s back to the drawing board following two, extremely frustrating, away defeats on the bounce.

Having come back from a two goal deficit to be level with just five minutes remaining and then lose out to a late penalty is maddening in the extreme, neither is it any consolation that we deserved more from our trip to St Margaretsbury where a combination of sloppy defence and lack lustre finishing means we left licking our wounds following a 2-1 reversal

Still it’s not all doom and gloom and congratulations to our Under 18 side who are just one step away from a place in the Bedfordshire FA County U18 Youth Challenge Cup Final following a 3-1 third round victory over Leighton Town and a 2-0 quarter final win over Kempston Rovers last weekend.

Victory over Luton Borough Dragons on February 25 will earn a place in a final where they could face home town rival Biggleswade Town assuming they can see off the challenge of Bedford FC Youth in the other semi final.

There is also great news for our Under 16 girls who can now look forward to a Challenge Cup final match against AFC Dunstable Under 16 girls on April 27. After a convincing win over Bedford Girls Under 16 side in the quarter final, they were awarded a place in the final after Kempston Rovers failed to field a side for the semi final match.

Tomorrow (Sat) we look to get our league season back on track with another away game, this time at Holmer Green (ko 3pm).

See you there

Guillem
